Recovery Smovery (Who Needs It Anyway)

Good Day Fit Soldiers!!

Lately I've been getting a lot of questions after Camp about protein, recovery drinks, recovery food, etc.  There is so much out there what do you believe?  I just wanted to clear the air debunk some myths and set the record strait.

There are a lot of variables when it comes to reaching your fitness goals.  Some may be more important than others but all are necessary...Let's take a look...

Artificial Sweetener Lovers Beware!

Hey FS Team!

Here is your nutrition/health post for the week.  Just a little more research adding to the problems with artificial sweeteners.

Would you feed your kids rubber?  What happens when your kids swallow a small plastic toy?  What if your dog swallows a small toy?

Northglenn Boot Camp Free Stuff!

Hey Team!

We like to dedicate Wednesdays to tweaking societies warped view on nutrition and trying to set a few things strait. So here's a little information to soak up in your fantastical brain!  Make sure you apply it too.  Read to the bottom and click the link for a trial of Pro/Grade mens or womens multi!

You've heard the phrase "You are what you eat" many times before.  Though I think its safe to say that we will not take it literally we may not take it as serious as we should.

When the topic of nutrition comes up you'll hear me say quite often "If you eat like crap you'll feel like crap.  If you eat great you'll feel great."  The food you eat is important.  Going from eating poor to eating great will make a world of a difference.

But what if you already eat good?  What if the good things you ate still weren't enough?  Well they probably aren't unless your eating way too much of the good stuff.  Fruits, vegetables, grains, meats the list goes on just aren't what they used to be.

Soils have been striped of their once rich nutrients so our produce and grains are weak in many nutrient areas.  Yet we still assume they are just as good.

"The U.S. Department of Agriculture, the World Health Organization, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion agree – you should eat more fruits and vegetables.

Up to 10 total servings a day!"

This is something most of us know and have heard before.  A multi-vitamin will help pick up where your food falls short.  I absolutely agree with taking a multi, and take one myself.  But where do you start? There are 10's of thousands of supplement companies out there that push their product on you through grand marketing schemes.

So who do you believe?  The problem is that there is NO regulation on the supplement industry, so anyone can go out and produce a product with cheap vitamins and minerals, market the crap out of it and people will buy it.  So a little research is needed to see who is actually legit and who is ripping you off.

Here lies the other problem.  Who has all the time to research the problem.  So we fall back to marketing.  We go with the one that talks the biggest game when that's not always the case.

Well long story short we have done the research and you may have been seeing the little "Pro Grade" logo around lately.  Here's your chance to see for your self.

The link here will allow you to try it for FREE.  Click below choose men's or Woman's and see the difference it makes.

Thornton CO Boot Camp We Give You The Best

Written by David Mura on Friday, 28 January 2011. Posted in Nutrition, Thornton, Information

Hello Fit Soldier Team,
Day in and day out we strive to not just give you a good workout.  Rather we put into your workouts a growing base of fitness knowledge, and creativity.
The same is NOT true for the vitamin and supplement industry.  (check out the blog post from a few weeks back Truth About Supplements) The quick truth is that the vast majority of them are crap.  There are no regulations on supplements.  In short as they do in the video.  You and I can blend together our own cheap vitamin or supplement, sell it for big bucks, all without doing anything wrong.

Northglenn Boot Camp (GO GREEK)

Written by David Mura on Wednesday, 26 January 2011. Posted in Nutrition, Northglenn

Hey Team,

If you've been around me long enough (10 minutes) there is a good chance you know that I'm a big fan of Greek Yogurt.  For those of you who are new to the loop here's the scoop.

It is yogurt that has been triple strained and in turn increases the concentration of the protein and on the flip side decreases the amount of sugar.  This makes for a great recover or a balanced snack if paired with some fruit or other goodies.

***Don't Be Fooled***
I wrote over the past year about "good foods gone bad" and yogurt was one of them.  Greek yogurt is in the same shoes.  Manufactures are banking on the fact that the greek fad is booming so what do they do?

The same with yogurt.  Pump in obscene amounts of sugar to make it meet the standard of our desensitized taste buds making it more like a desert.  Now your greek goes from about 18g protein / 6gsugar, to 18g protein up to 20+g sugar...  Don't Be Fooled.

Nobody Likes Sour Milk
And plain yogurt is just nasty...  I agree it can be a little tough to get down with out all that sugar.  So here are some of my favorite add in's t PLAIN Greek Yogurt, as well as a bunch of unique ideas that were passed on from one of our awesome boot campers.

  • Berries, mix em' mash em' Berries are among the lowest in sugar in the fruit family but pack some awesome flavor.
  • Nuts!
  • Honey: but not too much.
  • Greek Tsaziki: cucumbers, dill, pinch of salt!
  • Smoothie: makes for a little thicker texture.
  • Sour Cream: add a pinch of salt and substitute.
  • Granola: keep an eye on the sugar in the granola here.
  • Chicken,Tuna,Egg Salad: use instead of mayo.
  • Cupcakes: mix with vanilla or almond, a lil sweetener and use as frosting.
  • Creamy Salad dressing: add spices and a little milk.
  • Horseradish: mix the 2 and use as a fish or shrimp dip.
  • Pancakes: mix with skim milk and use instead of buttermilk.
  • Waffles: mix with your favorite fruit and top.

The list could go on.  Be creative.  If you have a favorite we would love to hear it, just comment it below!

We Don't Feed You Rubbish

Hey Fit Soldiers,

If you've experienced our fitness boot camp then you know we are not messing around when we aim to provide the safest most effective metabolic fitness program possible.  Our program design thoroughly thought planned  with you and your goals number 1.  That's the part that comes natural.

The part we have to put a little more effort into is what goes into your body.  We have a solid nutrition base and offer grocery store tours monthly.  We are willing to sit down and review and guide your nutrition. We also recognize the fact that there are some necessary, and important supplementation's that we all need to add into our nutrition plan for all goals ranging from general health, weight loss, strength, and performance gains.

Examples: Multi's, Omega's, Pre/Post Workout drinks etc.  Does everyone need them all?  NO.  Are multi's important.  YES.  Here's the problem though.  I'll let the video explain...

Yeah, NO regulation what so ever.  Be careful when choosing your products because most of them are rubbish.

Stay tuned, we've been doing our research and home work...
