She's A Fighter

Welcome Joanna to the Fit Soldiers Finest!

She truly displays the hard work that it takes to be your best. This is great on a personal level but she goes beyond that.  All too often I hear parents making excuses for their kids sub-par health status. (now don't get mad at I know I don't have kids yet)

Lead by example.  This is exactly what Joanna does. She loves being fit, running races 5K to 1/2 marathon (she has some pretty abnormal knees and that doesn't stop her).

Her daughters are following her lead by running races, being active, and even creating their own boot camp in the back yard!

Now tell me that will not leave a lasting impression for generations to come!

Thank you Joanna for all your hard work!

Superbowl Healthy Snacks!

If you're like most Americans you're probably pretty excited for the big game this coming Sunday.  Not necessarily for the teams playing, but to hang out with good friends, drink a couple brews, and have some tasty grub!

I want to throw out a couple healthy options for you this week to help you stay somewhat on track while you let your nutritional guard down a bit.

Here's what we've got for you....ranch dip, and pizza!

Recipe of the Week - Healthy Baked Chicken Nuggets

This recipe is for all the moms with picky kiddos out there!

I just made these for Dave Monday night and he LOVED them! I even found out something new about my husband.

He told me how when he was a kid he would always get super excited about the school lunch menus because he loved chicken nuggets so he would go through and highlight all the days on the menu with chicken nuggets.

He even paid extra for seconds on the days chicken nuggets
were being served. It turns out they are still one of his
favorites and this recipe for a healthier version of chicken
nuggets gets his stamp of approval!

We ate them with a nice big salad and it was delicious, but
you could also do steamed veggies or baked sweet potato
fries as a side.

Sweet Potato with Warm Black Bean Salad

Hey Fit Soldiers,

Katie and I just whipped this one up last night. It's one of our go-to recipes for a simple meal and quick and easy clean up.  It just takes time to bake the sweet potato if you're going the conventional route. You can also throw them in the microwave if you prefer!

New Year, New You Transformation Contest

Transformation Challenge Rules:

• Register as a team of 3-5 people (each team must be a mix of at least one new as well as each gender represented in each group). If you need a group or need more in your group just let me know.
• Challenge runs for 4 weeks from January 6 to February 3, 2012 (weigh-ins and photos due by 6:30pm each day)
• Current member cost: $10 (not including current camp fee)
• New Member cost: $ $160 (includes 3x/ week camp fees)
• Small group Grocery Store Tour + Fit Soldiers Nutrition Resources
• All team members must attend both body composition dates (Jan. 6th & Feb. 3rd. Weighed in and photos submitted no later than 7:00 pm) Minimum dress code, bathing suit, shorts/sports bra, or what ever you are more comfortable wearing.
• Each team will assign a captain. You are welcome to name your team.
• Team captain will gather all team members registration forms and before and after pictures. (If no team give registration from to me.
• Each team will be given a Fit Soldiers Coach. (Lesli,Joey,Me)
• Coaches will pick their top team and top individual transformations (3 total).
• Fit Soldiers members will vote for grand prizewinner online based on photo transformation & body composition stats.
• Upon completion winners (and anyone else who would like) will complete a short written testimonial on their experience
• Winning team members will each receive a $50 gift card, AND you get to create a workout to "train the coaches"!
• Grand prizewinner will receive a gift certificate for a massage, next month of bootcamp free!

Are You Winning Today?

Welcome Monday!

How many of us are excited for Monday. Probably not too many as our culture has us hating them like the plague. Yeah OK we just came of the weekend of relaxation but how are you going to approach today?

Your day is is as good or as bad as you want to make it.  If you want to take on the day like its a crappy day...guess what, your going to have a crappy day.

How about you change that crappy mindset and take on today like its the best thing to happen since sliced bread?  If you take on the day with a positive mindset, with a winning attitude then guess what.  You win.

You will accomplish more today than everybody else that's stuck in their own self created rut and actually enjoy it.

So get your head out of the ditch, forget about the "case of the Monday's" and take accountability for your attitude and have an AWESOME day!

Fit Soldiers Enter The Kettlebell

Hey perhaps you've noticed some new hunks of iron laying around Fit Soldiers lately... You may have even seen them swung around on the TV's Biggest Loser or maybe played around with them once or twice yourself.

We excitedly welcome the addition of Kettlebells her to Fit Soldiers! The cannon balls with a handle are one of the hottest trends in the fitness world right now. Rightfully so the pack a punch when it comes to benefits. I am extreemly pumped to add them to our tool box and anxious to see the results and fun we're going to have with them.

Let me tell you a little more about them and how the benefits of kettlebells will put your fitness goals into over drive!

Plateau Buster Activities

This past week in our MYM class we talked at length about plateaus. We dug deep in to the reasons they come along and different solutions for them. Though they can seem deflating when your expecting continued results and suddenly you've come to a screeching halt.

Well I want you to think of that as a WIN. Yes a plateau as a win in your column. Yes your body has adapted to what ever your throwing at it but, nutrition and exercise, think of it like this.  Your body is telling you "I am ready for the next stage" - "I have conquered this routine" - "Give me something new!!"

Now the FUN begins!

Stronger Than Your Excuses

Nobody is immune to these.  The are in each an every house hold here in Westminster, across the US, and around the world. We all have them, and will probably never be free of them.

So the question becomes, Are you letting them consume your life? Are you "Stronger Than Your Excuses"

Go ahead and lets be honest. Be a little more conscious of how frequent excuses come up in your day to day. Is it battling the candy jar at work, not getting things done at home, skipping a workout? I personally use the excuse "I'm just so busy."

Are you content with your fitness level, your diet, work status, the list could go on.  Then ask, how often are you making excuses for that aspect of your life. I bet its more frequent than you think. It becomes a crutch and you begin to enabling your self to think that it's not your fault and nothing can be done.

Lets start wiping away those rubbish excuses and start to see the progress that that was dwarfed by them.

I will often times claim to be ohh soo busy... How about I stop wasting time checking email, facebook, wrapping myself up with useless projects.  Just like in college, it always seemed like a perfect time to clean the bathroom when a big project was coming due...

Tips to Prevent Scary Weight Gain Durring the Holidays

Halloween marks the beginning of the "weight gain season?" Yes, tonight, well probably even this past weekend, the average American will begin to gain 7-10 pounds of body fat before the end of the year!
That's way too much.
This "weight gain season" doesn't just stop on January 1st.  Despite all the "New Years Resolutions" the season will continue until Superbowl Sunday!
I have my theories for that but I'll get to that at a later date.
As Fit Soldiers we are committed to be 'Fit NOT Fat for the Holiday's.' Taking it one day, or holiday, at a time.

Southwestern Stuffed Acorn Squash

OK this one takes a bit of time to cook the squash but totally worth it!

It packs a punch with nutritional bonuses of Vitamin C, A Calcium,  and Iron.  The acorn squash is also a good source of magnesium, a mineral important for healthy bones!

As many of you know I just got back from BootCamp BootCamp.  A conference where all of the top Boot Camp owners from across the country and even internationally come to get better.

It was such an amazing learning experience and now its time to get off my log and make your experience second to none.  I GUARANTEE that you will not find a better group fitness program and experience.
